Paintless Dent Removal on a 2017 Maserati Ghibli | All-City Dent Repair – London, Ontario
Dents show up on our cars in multiple ways, run-away shopping carts, parking lot mishaps, flying hockey pucks, hail damage, you name it. Unfortunately for us, we never get to choose just where the dent shows up on your car. By and large, most common parking lot dents show up on the open flat surfaces of our car’s doors from being hit by a neighbouring door of someone who parked a little too close. But in some cases, we’re faced with having to remove dents from the body-lines (creases) and edges of panels. These tend to be the most difficult repairs to perform.
We had the opportunity to work on this beautiful Maserati Ghibli last fall that had been backed into by another car in a parking lot. This dent had all of the difficult characteristics listed above. The metal was creased, the dent was over a designed body line of the fender, and the damage had gone into the front edge of the panel. Needless to say, this was a dent that was going to require patience, but above all a working knowledge of how to re-shape complex damage and release trapped pressure in the dent safely and with a clean finish.
How we removed the dent: Expertise and Tools
I took the liberty of filming small sections of this repair for people to be more familiar with the dent removal process. This dent required an array of different tool tips for pushing the metal outward at different stages in the repair. You might also notice that I’m using a plastic tipped knock down or punch on the outside of the panel. While this might look alarming to some people, measured and precise taps on the outside of a complex dent are often necessary to reshape the displaced parts of the dent that moved outward when the panel was originally hit. It is also a handy method to relax pressure in the deepest part of the dent to ensure that it is removed with a smooth and clean finish. While it seems like a relatively simple process, removing dents on vehicle sheet metal takes a lot of training and practice to do properly and mistakes are very easy to make if attempted in a DIY fashion without the proper expertise. I always recommend that people seek out a qualified paintless dent removal technician for dents on their cars and to remember that the cheapest repair option is often not the best option to protect your investment.
